ITANAGAR, Aug 20: The Papum Village Welfare Committee (PVWC) in a joint collaboration with villagers, GBs, youths and the PWD, Naharlagun division conducted a social service and restored the damaged village link road Papu –I to National Highway. The PWD pressed three number of JCP into service for clear the road which was damaged by recent heavy rainfall. Father of Catholic Church and BTM Hospital, Papu Nalah also extended support to the social service.
Meanwhile, the committee urged the PWD to take steps for construction of 3 number of CC culverts on the village link road during this financial year.
Pointing out the lack of basic needs in the village including drinking water supply, proper power supply and road communication, the committee also appealed to the panchayat leaders of Jully Bath segment to take stock of the situation and approach the Govt for development of Papu –I and II. Media urged to educate masses on HIV/AIDS

ITANAGAR, Aug 20: Health mentors in Arunachal Pradesh today called upon state media to play its bigger role in removing negative social stigma associated with HIV/AIDS.
Attending a state level advocacy programme on HIV/AIDS by State AIDS Control Society (APSACS) here today, Parliamentary Secretary, Health & Family Welfare, Thangwang Wangham urged media to use its powerful medium to educate the masses about the threat posed by HIV/AIDS among masses.
“Media has an important role to play in disseminating information about the disease among the masses, he said while calling upon to play a positive role in containing and controlling the spread of the disease in Arunachal Pradesh.
He informed that the Speaker of State Legislative Assembly has convened a meeting of the Legislators Forum on HIV/AIDS on August 25 to discuss the issue.
He also called for extending such forum at grassroots level to create awareness among the villagers.
Donating Rs 1 lakh to the Arunachal Network of Positive People (ANPP) comprising 14 HIV+ persons, Wangham said the Legislators Forum will also be requested to donate some lumpsum amount from MLALADF towards the welfare of HIV+ people.
He further said some fund also have to be kept aside for zilla parishad to carry out campaign against AIDS in the villages.
Director, Health & FW, Dr K Nishing, called for removing the stigma associated with HIV/AIDS and hoped that once the discrimination shown towards AIDS patient stops, the number of AIDS cases would automatically reduce in the country.
ANPP general secretary Yumrin Nokpa narrated how he had to face societal bar after being detected HIV+.

APEDA celebrates Akshay Urja Diwas
ITANAGAR, Aug 20: Along with the rest of the nation, the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was celebrated here today as 'Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas'.
Being organised by the Arunachal Pradesh Energy Development Agency (APEDA), various school students of the capital complex participated in the literary activities including drawing, quiz and essay writing competitions on the theme 'New and Renewable Energy Sources'.
APEDA has been celebrating the day since its announcement in 2004, which is sponsored by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). This time also a series of activities were conducted by the APEDA to make the people aware of the importance of energy conservation.

APPSC gets new chairman and a member
ITANAGAR, Aug 20: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Gen JJ Singh administered the oath of office and secrecy to newly appointed Chairman of Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission Dr. Ligu Tacho and Member Mamang Dai at Raj Bhavan, Itanagar today.
Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin, his cabinet colleagues, senior officials and member of State Public Commission Jathi Pulu attended the oath taking ceremony.
Dr. Ligu is fifth person to occupy the prestigious Chairman post of the State Public Service Commission after T.S. Deori, J.K. Mehta, Nabum Atum and Rinchen Dorjee. Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission was established on April 4, 1988.
Dr. Ligu, who joined the Commission as a member in April, 2006, is the third person
to be elevated to the post after becoming Commission member. Earlier to him, Nabum
Atum and Rinchin Dorjee were also the members of the Commission before becoming its
chairman. Born on November 16, 1953 to late Ligu Tadam and late Donia Ligu of Ligu
Village, near Daporijo in Upper Subansiri district, Dr. Ligu started his primary
education in 1961 from Middle English School, Daporijo. Thereafter he studied in
Ramakrishna Mission, Shillong from 1965 to 67. He passed his class XI from Ramakrishna
Mission, Narendrapur, Calcutta in 1972-

Padma Shree Mamang Dai, who took the oath as member of the Public Service Commission is one of most towering intellectual figure of the State. An eminent poet, author and journalist, was conferred with prestigious Padmashree Award in recognition of her immense contributions in the field of literature and education.
Born on February 23, 1957, Dai received her education in Shillong, Meghalaya and Jawaharlal Nehru College, Pasighat, graduating with distinction in English from Guwahati University, Assam. In 1979 Mamang Dai was the first woman of her state to be selected to the Indian Civil Service. As she was always drawn towards writing, Dai left the premium service and started her career in journalism in 1980 and never looked back. As a writer, Dai wears many hats: historian, travel writer and journalist. Her first book, Arunachal Pradesh: the Hidden Land, documented the customs and the culture of a land that is still hidden by a veil of mystery and filled a huge vacuum about one of the country’s little known jewels. Her novel, The Legends of Pensam, attained a new genre weaving history around a web of intricate images and was acclaimed as a literary work that could be read as a forgotten chapter in Indian history.
A leading journalist of the North East Dai was also a correspondent for the Hindustan Times, the Telegraph and the Sentinel newspapers, the President of Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ), and an active radio and TV journalist covering political and social issues in her state.
Her concern for the rich tribal culture of the State, nudged Dai to form the Arunachal
Heritage Society in 1992 as a local initiative for the preservation, documentation

ArNP + a major achievement of APSACS

ITANAGAR, Aug 20: The people living in rural areas are little acquainted with HIV and AIDS, said Arunachal Network of Positive People (ArNP+) General Secretary Nokpa Yumrin while sharing his life style to this reporter here today.
The secretary strongly appealed the people to remove the stigma attached with the
people living with HIVAIDS virus. He said “the AIDS-
He further said that, “Now I have shed all these stigma and fear. Iam confident enough to take up for the cause of the people living with HIV/AIDS and also decided to work on it to prevent further spread of the HIV/AIDS upto to my capacity for the welfare of the society”.
Out of 178 people living in HIV/AIDS positive in the state only 14 individuals have joined the ArNP+ till today to fight against HIV/AIDS due fear of discrimination.
Yumrin appealed the people living with HIV/AIDS to come out openly and join hand with the society and the concerned agencies to fight against this virus.
He also appealed the concerned authority to post one or two Doctors for counseling and treatment to such group of people and also suggested them to provide fund to ArNP+ so that the society can conduct awareness and other means of campaign to prevent HIV/AIDS and its stigma in rural areas of the state.
The coming up of ArNP+ in Arunachal Pradesh is a major achievement of the Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS control Society (APSACS). Earlier, people living with HIV/AIDS from other state were called for APSACS programme to share and deliver their views and suggestions. Through this group of social worker (ArNP+), now APSACS’s activities would bring more fruitful result in its endeavor to fight against HIV/AIDS.

ITANAGAR, Aug 20: The toppers of the State Level Talent Search Exam were felicitated in a funciton held at the office premises of NCSTSE Service, Itanagar today.
Angel Roy of Itanagar, Yukam Welly of Seppa and Kamin Tayeng of Pasighat were adjudged as 1st, 2nd and 3rd winners of category “A”, Nityang Padung of Yingkiong, Nani Tasing of Pasighat and Jorjee Sonam of Seppa are the 1st, 2nd and 3rd winners of Category “B”, while, Ongdu Wakhet of Changlang, Guru Prasad Singh and Sonam Kumari of Tirbin were adjudged as 1st, 2nd and 3rd winners of category “C” respectively.
